One of the Greatest...

During this past week, we had a wonderful team here, and I would definitely say, they were one of the greatest teams we've had! They arrived at the seminary on the 3rd, and they stayed for a week!

When they first arrived, we cut up some coconuts for them to try (Lily LOVES it!)...

And we spent the rest of the day playing soccer and other games!

After a nice church service...

We took the team to the beach!

We played some volleyball...

Did a little snorkeling...

And had a nice, relaxing time!

After a fun beach day, we did some hard work around campus!

We painted...

Tilled the garden...

Planted beans and papaya...

And got covered in paint!

We also re-did some screens that were rusting...

Another thing we accomplished was painting the womens' dorm and the cafeteria!

We painted...

And painted...!

A couple of people (including Lily!) cleaned the men's dorm which was a huge help!

After two days of work at the seminary, we hiked up to the Citadel, which is the largest fort in the Americas!

It was a short (but STEEP) hike that lasted about 35 minutes!

I took over 200 pictures of this team on my camera, and had them all put on my mom's computer, so I erased them off of my camera. Even though I was editing them and cropping them, the next day they were all gone. Very sad that I can't put my pictures on this blog, but I'll make due!

Here's little Lily (who came with us on the hike!) in a century's post!

I think the coolest part of the trip was the fact that we were inside a cloud!
I was actually breathing in cloud air!
It was crazy!

You can't really tell, but there's a double rainbow in the clouds here...
The even cooler part was that the rainbow is actually a full circle, but you can't tell from the shadow.

The group!

There was this hallway with little piles of cannon balls everywhere! (Leme and Zach are posing!)

So of course we had to take a bunch of weird pictures with them!
(Which was actually kind of hard since the cannon balls weighed like a thousand pounds!)

Here are rows and rows of unused cannon balls (and then there's Zach!)

Here's Lily just relaxing on a cannon...

One of the pictures I was most upset about losing, was one taken in the dungeons.
As you can see, many people have written their names on the walls over the years...
I took one picture of a particular name written with charcoal on the wall:
Oscar, 1892
1892! Crazy right!

After taking a tour of the Citadel, we went to the Sans-Souci palace, where Henri Christophe lived!

Pretty, huh?

Though mostly in ruins, it is still pretty amazing!

The view from the top was amazing too!

In this picture we are standing under a tree called the "Justice Tree"... where people were hung.
(Well, that got dark quick...!)

After our morning adventure, we headed on down to Kids Alive, where our good friend Erin Higgins works!

She basically explained to us what Kids Alive was about and how it worked...

Kids Alive is a children's village, where they take orphans and put them into homes with Haitian parents. They put the kids in separate houses with house parents because they want to make the kids feel like they have a family, and less like orphans!

On campus they have a school that the kids attend (along with some community kids)!

This is Erin's classroom, she teaches 3's, 4's, and 5 year olds (and Sofie too!)!

After the tour, we played with the kids! We played some big rounds of soccer,
but the girls especially loved jump roping...

And some kids preferred the swings...!

These kids are so sweet...

Especially Shnaider!

On their last night here, we had a bonfire!
The team brought us hotdogs, mac-n-cheese, and stuff to make s'mores!

We had a great time talking and laughing, quoting "The Office", and playing "King of Tokyo" till 11:30 at night!

After one of the best weeks ever, it had to come to a close...

But I did manage to get one last group picture!

GREATEST. PICTURE. EVER.

Thanks for reading my blog!

Stay tuned!

  2. The pictures you took from the palace have to be my absolute favorites. That place looked incredible! And the part about the justice tree literally made me laugh out loud. hahaha
